M.This study delves into the regional dynamics and conflict spillover in North Africa, with a primary focus on assessing the impact of foreign military intervention. The intricate interplay of political, economic, and security factors in this volatile region necessitates an in-depth analysis of how foreign military involvement shapes the dynamics of conflicts and their potential repercussions beyond national borders. This study adopts the theory of intervention, to understand the complexities of the regional dynamics and the impact of foreign military interventions in North Africa, particularly in Libya. By employing a comprehensive framework of qualitative methodology, this research aims to shed light on the multifaceted aspects of conflict spillover and its ramifications for regional stability and assess the consequences of foreign military intervention on state fragility, social cohesion, and governance structures within North African countries. The study considers various dimensions of the impact, including the exacerbation of existing grievances, the militarization of conflicts, the proliferation of arms, the fragmentation of societal cohesion, and the displacement of populations. It also explores how interventions have affected state institutions, governance structures, and social dynamics, ultimately influencing the stability of North African nations; particularly in Libya. Elucidating the interconnections between domestic conflicts and external military interventions, the study underscores the complex relationship between foreign military intervention, stability, and intrastate conflicts in North Africa, emphasising that these interventions significantly affected the political stability of North Africa; increasing intrastate conflicts and violence in the region. The study thus recommends the prioritisation of diplomatic and political solutions over military interventions, focusing on inclusive dialogue and conflict resolution mechanisms.Item THE ROLE OF REFUGEE EDUCATION POLICY IN REGIONAL INTEGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT IN WEST AFRICA(9th International Conference on Education & Education of Social Sciences 17-18 January 2022- Online, 2022-01) BETEK Chelsea M.; FOLARIN Sheriff F.; Duruji M. M.This study which interrogates the policy debates concerning refugee education, social cohesion and integration within the Economic Community of West African States, takes into consideration the role(s) which the education of refugees plays in regional development. International migration constitutes a complex phenomenon that has continued to grow in scope, complexity and importance, affecting several nations of the world, especially as it relates to specifically to human displacement and refugee issues. In West Africa, various strategies have been put in place with the aim of achieving a fully economically and politically integrated sub-region, even as conflicts, instability and terrorist insurgency have led to the displacement of persons within and across geographical boundaries. However, among the strategies to achieve the objective of regional integration and development, the education of refugees has not been given much consideration and this study reveals that an appropriate approach towards refugee education is important for increasing refugee self-reliance and fostering development. Through the extensive review of extant literature and analysis of relevant secondary data, the study finds that refugee education plays a very crucial role in social cohesion, and the adoption of an education policy that works will increase the self-reliance of refugees, facilitate integration in West Africa and ultimately see to the development of the sub-region in years to come.Item QUALITY EDUCATION FOR PERSONS LIVING WITH DISABILITIES IN NIGERIA(9th International Conference on Education & Education of Social Sciences 17-18 January 2022- Online, 2022-01) Kusimo Abigail Olamide; Duruji M. M.; Oni SamuelWorld Health Organization estimates that globally, one billion people have a disability; with 80% of that population living in developing countries. Persons living with disabilities (PLWDs) face significant levels of discrimination and are often prevented from participating in their communities. This paper focuses on education as an essential part of human right towards persons living with disabilities and their access to quality education in Nigeria. Education is not only a right, but in situations of emergencies, chronic crises and early reconstruction, it provides physical, psychosocial and cognitive protection, which can be both life-saving and life-sustaining. The objective of this paper centres on quality, accessibility and education of persons living with disabilities in Nigeria. This paper examines concepts such as inclusion, quality education, inclusive education, exclusionary and discriminatory practices against persons with disabilities in Nigeria. It critically examines how discrimination, segregation and marginalization has affected education in Nigeria towards persons living with disabilities, depriving them of their right to education, and efforts towards achieving education for all which is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 4. The data for the work will be gotten secondary sources. The study adopts textual analysis technique to analyse the data that will be generated from secondary sources. The aim of this paper is to integrate persons living with disability into the society using education. Thereby using the right to education to break the stigmatization persons living with disabilities face in the Nigeria.Item BARRIERS TO INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY PRIMARY SCHOOLS, NIGERIA(9th International Conference on Education & Education of Social Sciences 17-18 January 2022- Online, 2022-01) Kusimo Abigail Olamide; Duruji M. M.; Oni SamuelThe diversity and unique contribution of persons living with disabilities in the general classroom is one of the major drive for inclusive education. Inclusive education helps persons living with disability find a place of acceptance in the society. Education is vital to the development of every individual in society despite their age, race, tribe, ability and disability. Education is a basic human right which every individual should access. The purpose of education is to acquire skills, information and knowledge. Inclusion is pivotal for the development of the society. The emergence of the concept of inclusive education has captured the attention of international and local stakeholders in education. This paper examines and discusses the barriers affecting persons living with disability in Federal Capital Territory primary schools, Nigeria. Irrespective of the importance attached to inclusive education, there are barriers that still limit the successful adoption and implementation of inclusive education. It is for this reason that this paper seeks to analyse some of these barriers. Using a secondary source of data, this paper critically analyses some issues such as inadequate infrastructure, inexperience special educators, societal discrimination, lack of access to public funding that affects implementing inclusive education in Federal Capital Territory primary schools. This paper also discusses the various barriers to inclusive education and its effect on persons living with disability as they lack basic resources to access the society. This paper concludes by proffering solutions to barriers affecting implementation of inclusive education in Federal Capital Territory primary schools, Nigeria.Item THE OPERATIONS OF INTERNATIONAL OIL CORPORATIONS AND WOMEN’S LIVELIHOOD IN NIGERIA(7th International Conference on Education and Social Sciences 20-22 January, 2020 - DUBAI, 2020-01) Ogungbade G.O; Duruji M. M.; Folarin S. F.The unearthing of crude oil in Nigeria and its subsequent effects on the nation's growth has further underpinned the contradictions of the "resource curse theory". This study aims at assessing the impact on the measures put in place by the international oil corporations (IOCs) on women livelihood in Ogulagha Island of Delta State, Nigeria. This paper reveals that the mitigation measures (skill acquisition, financial support, employment opportunities, provision of social amenities, regular clean up and provision adequate health facilities) put in place by IOCs have no significant impact on women livelihood in Ogulagha Island, Delta State of Nigeria. This paper recommends that more research that is context specific with one on one interviews need to be conducted to actually know which measures can enhance the women livelihood in Ogulagha Island of Delta State, Nigeria.Item THE OPERATIONS OF INTERNATIONAL OIL CORPORATIONS AND WOMEN’S LIVELIHOOD IN NIGERIA: CHALLENGES AND REMEDIAL MEASURES(7th International Conference on Education and Social Sciences 20-22 January, 2020 - DUBAI, 2020-01) Ogungbade G.O; Duruji M. F.The Niger Delta region is rich in oil and gas resources and dominated by International Oil Corporations (IOCs) which engages in operations such as exploration, drilling, extraction of crude oil, production of crude oil products, transportation and sales of the crude oil and gas. However, these activities have led to numerous challenges faced by the women that beg for attention. This paper aims at identifying the challenges faced by the women of Ogulagha kingdom of Delta State, Nigeria caused by the operations of International Oil Corporations (IOCs) and examining the relationships that exist. The paper also proffers some remedial measures on how the impact of the operations of IOCs on the livelihood of women in Ogulagha Kingdom can be mitigated. The challenges identified were environmental degradation, pose enormous human health risk from the consumption of contaminated seafoods, loss of sources of livelihood (fishing, farming and trading) particularly among women, loss of arable lands and water pollution thereby making the water to be undrinkable and recommends that the itemized challenges be addressed to serve as a mitigation measures.Item Sustainable development goals implementation in a post-colonial African State: Any future for the African Continental Free Trade Area?(Sustainable Dvelopment Volume 33, Issue 1, 2024-10-17) Chidozie Felix C.; Osimen Goddy U.; Bhadmus Joy; Newo OluwamurewaThis paper examined the prospect of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement in the context of the SDGs. It took its bearing from the contemporary structure of most African states, arguing that the reality of the continent's postcolonial condition could impede the implementation of the AfCFTA. Its refrain is that studies on how Nigeria and South Africa, as regional powers, have used their economic and political influence to advance the SDGs' implementation throughout Africa, using different South–South development frameworks are few. In other words, the institutionalization of a strategic collaboration agenda through a Nigeria-South Africa-coordinated African response to the new powers, in the area of timely implementation of the SDGs is lacking. This study affirms that for the AfCFTA to be successful, it is incumbent on the regional hegemons to build a suitable institutional framework and governance structure that upholds the rule of law and encourages harmonization, consistency, and predictability.Item Regional Integration and the Neo-functionalist Model: The Brexit Narrative(Chin. Polit. Sci. Rev. 5, 2018) Aje Oluwatobi; Chidozie Felix C.The socio-economic and political advantages derived as benefits of the integrative project have been the justification for most integrative initiatives. This has also made regional integration a major phenomenon in international relations, both as a field of study and as a sphere of actual relation. Many theories are paraded in scholarly circles explaining the rationale and process of the integrative project. However, little attention is paid to the fact that, on the continuum of integration, retrogression and disengagement is possible as social realities unfold. Using archival research method, the work examines the relevance of the neo-functional model in explaining recent trends on integration, using Brexit as a case study. It contends that the neo-functionalist model still holds analytical purchase in approximating contemporary trends of integrationItem Political Exclusion and the Quest for Self-Determination in Southeastern Nigeria(African RenaissanceVol. 22, No. 1, 2025-05) Osimen Goddy U.; Daudu Basil Osayin; Chidozie Felix C.The Igbo, one of Nigeria’s major ethnic groups have long experienced marginalisation and perceived exclusion from national political leadership. The research adopted the phenomenological research design with data collected from secondary sources via a systematic literature review. The data gathered were analysed, utilizing thematic analysis. Using the relative deprivation theory, this study explores the historical backdrop, socio-political dynamics, and key factors underlying the Igbo people’s perceived political exclusion. The study investigates the motivating factors driving the Igbo people’s quest for self-determination and digs into the techniques used by Igbo socio-political parties such as MASSOB (Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra) and IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra) to achieve self-determination ranging from peaceful rallies to separatist movements. The study also looks at how the Nigerian government and other stakeholders responded to these demands. Among other things, the study revealed that ethnic sentiment is a problem in Nigeria, and adding to the growing literature on political exclusion and self-determination, the study provides a deeper knowledge of challenges faced by the Igbo and potential paths (nonviolence, dialogue and inclusivity) for addressing their concerns within the Nigerian political structure.
