Abstract
Description
Over many decades, there has been an increasing interest in the use of bamboo scaffolds, mostly in developing countries, over the standardized tubular steel scaffolds in building construction. However, there are different advantages or disadvantages associated with the use of the two materials. The constructors and other stakeholders in the building industry are mostly interested in executing the safest and most economical building project. Owing to the aforementioned, this article hereby focuses on exploring the pros and cons that are associated with the use of bamboo or tubular steel scaffolds in building construction. The choice of bamboo over tubular steel is currently at 40–60%. This is due to the huge availability of bamboo in developing countries, and importantly as a result of its excellent yield strength, which can match that of steel.
