This article is a contribution to the debate on democracy and accountability in Africa. It examines the nexus between Democracy and Accountability. It argues that whereas democracy engendered accountability in pre-colonial Africa, modern democracy in Africa fails to bring accountability to the front burner of politics which is attributed to colonial rule that led to the destruction of indigenous system cum the attitudes of post-colonial leaders. Given this scenario, the paper argues that accountability which was the hall mark of pre-colonial Africa should be imbibed by contemporary leaders of Africa. Africans should be sensitized to making their leaders answerable for their actions.
