dc.descriptionThe study examines the linguistic and literary cues used by James Kirkup in his poem „„Thunder and Lightning‟‟. Based on the theory of foregrounding, some models of transitivity, and the rules of selectional restriction the study highlights some stylistic patterns in the poem and concludes that such patterns are motivated for meaning in the text; and that the overall meaning of the poem stems from the reversal of man and elements of nature
