Abstract
Description
The ability to objectively analyse and assess issues in order to form a judgement is indeed one of the goals of education anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, the results from different aptitude tests from employers in Nigeria show that Nigerian university leavers lack the capacity to deal with the nuances of a dynamic world. This study examines how GSP – Communication in English in particular – can be used to inculcate critical thinking skills into students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. It also explores the various aspects of critical thinking skills, especially, as they relate to the undergraduate in Nigeria. The recommendations from the paper are valuable to academics in Nigeria who wish to develop and/or improve the critical thinking capacity of their students.
